Ritual Design: an experiential introduction

  • Keizersgrachtkerk 566 Keizersgracht Amsterdam, NH, 1017 EM Netherlands (kaart)

Ritual design is quickly becoming a core practice for everyone engaged in developing purposeful organisations and those looking to access the deeper dimensions of their work.

Come and learn from two front runners in the field in this evening of ritual, stories and education!

Why rituals?
Through ritual, we can move closer to what we regard as sacred, transform our identities, become members of- or leave groups, initiate projects, process challenging experiences, give purpose to parts of our day, and much more.

In simple terms, ritual design is a practice of using less subtle things - like actions and objects - to engage with more subtle things - like emotions, commitments and relationships.

By applying this practice, we can access and affect the stuff that is on the inside.

It was at the same time luxuriously indulgent and practically useful. It flowed effortlessly, and felt warm, safe and welcoming from the start. It easily got across how ritual doesn’t need to seem weird, esoteric or mystical – it’s just a practical human tool to focus in on what’s important.

During our evening together
->
We want to inspire you with case-studies and with the love for our craft

-> We want to help you get clear on what rituals are and how you might use them

-> We want to empower you with some basic design principles

Get a sense of how you might benefit from rituals
Rituals are important, but most of us have a blindspot for when they are needed.

We intend to address this hands on, and make sure that you go home with insight in your own need for ritual. Be it in your own creative projects, your team or collaborations.

What can I expect?
We will start our evening off with a simple ritual of arrival. This will both be useful in itself and offer us a chance to talk about what rituals are from a fresh and felt experience of one.

Which takes us into a brief exploration of the design principles in play: What makes rituals different from other things we do?

Following this, we will explore when rituals are needed through a combination of your own experiences of rituals, your observations and our case-studies. Uncovering more design principles throughout.

To finish the evening off, we host you in using a tool for mapping your own ritual needs - before slowly getting of format into a Q&A and lightly held conversational space.

About your hosts
Viktor Lysell Smålänning has been working internationally as a ritual designer since 2014. To him, rituals are a core part of who we are, and he sees that life becomes richer and more meaningful when we apply them. Viktor supports his clients in crossing major thresholds in their creative lives, in contributing with centering and flow to their work and in developing experiential elements to long-term processes such as leadership programs. He loves offering the deeper, more subconscious parts of who we are a chance to come out and play in a guided way. Viktor's approach is at the same time firmly held by design principles and deliberately open to be able to respond to unique situations and lived needs. He operates professionally through Ritual at Work and Community Rituals, ritual design agencies that he founded and co-founded.

Anne Vries co-founded Idéfix in 2012, out of the urge to help awake people’s dormant ideas. She is fascinated by the birth process of an idea into the world. Anne guides entrepreneurs, artists and other professionals in bringing ideas into motion, through phases of visualising, connecting, manifesting and harvesting. She also works with leaders and teams in organisations, where her systemic and creative approach helps build trust and movement. Anne was struck bij de power of rituals when experiencing one for Idéfix in 2017. She is convinced that performing rituals is a vital step in the creative proces - and often skipped. Anne is being trained by Viktor in the art of ritual design and facilitation since 2020.
